Observation & Reporting

Step-1 Observation of the map of India and locate the National park “Valley of flowers” in Uttarakhand.

Step-2 Discussion on National parks and their significance.

Step3- Recap of Previous knowledge based on Parts of a plant.

Step 4: Children will be taken to a garden (or pictures/PPT /video will be shown) and asked to observe the flowers and note down the different colours of flowers.

Step 5- Drawing /Colouring activities showing different types of flowers and buds.

Step-6 Collection of dry flowers /petals /pictures

Step 7:  Observation and reporting about the differences in flowers based on their arrangement of petals, size and smell.

Step 8: Observation of the flowers growing in school campus or home and find out the blooming time/season of different flowers.

Step 9- Talking to the School gardener or searching internet resources regarding blooming time / season of flowers.

Step 10- Group discussion based on blooming of buds.

Step -11 Planting any flowering plant and observation and reporting of blooming time.

1)      Observe a Marigold and a Hibiscus flower. (Pictures/samples will be given)

The teacher provides appropriate environment for observation of flowers either through garden visits, flower samples or video lessons.

 

 

 

Then the teacher leads the class through critical thinking sessions with questions like-

1.      Some areas are protected by the Government as National parks. What will happen if it is not done?

 

2.      You have observed that flowers are so bright and colorful.

Can you guess why?

 

 

3.      When you touch a flower, do you find a powdery thing on your hands?

Do you know what is it?

 

4.      Why do most flowers close their petals at night?

 

5.      Can you guess how sunflower got its name?

6.      Do all flowers bloom at the same time?

Step 3: Classify the flowering plants as

Step -4 Drawing /Colouring activities showing different types of flowering plants.

Step -5 Collection of pictures of different types of flowering plants with their names in English, Hindi and mother tongue.

Then the teacher leads the class through critical thinking sessions with questions like-

 

1.      Why do creepers and climbers need support?

2.      Can you name some plants which never have flowers?

3.      You might have seen periwinkles and marigolds grow in all gardens.

Will these flowers bloom if you keep the plants in shade?

 

4.      Will it be easy to uproot a tree or a herb? Why?

 

5.      Do tree woods also have smell?

Can you name a tree with wood having a nice smell?

Step -3 Drawing /colouring activities based on flower patterns with special reference to Mahbubani folk art of Bihar.

Step-4 Collection of dry flowers and observation of seeds contained in flowers.

Step-5 Discussion on “Importance of flowers for making new plants”

Step-6 Poster making based on the theme “ Do not pluck flowers”
